The Civic Orchestra of New Haven, under the direction of Nadya Potemkina, proudly presents Roots & Reflections, a stirring program of music that explores heritage, tradition, and artistic expression.
Featuring a diverse and evocative lineup, the concert includes William Grant Still’s Afro-American Symphony, a landmark work blending blues, jazz, and classical form; Hugo Alfvén’s Midsommarvaka (Swedish Rhapsody No. 1), a vibrant depiction of Scandinavian midsummer festivities; and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition in Tushmalov’s striking orchestration, bringing to life a gallery of vivid musical portraits. The program also features Dvořák’s Biblical Songs, a deeply personal and heartfelt set of vocal works infused with faith and longing.
