About the event

Some composers are given a lifetime to shape musical history. Others leave an indelible mark in only a handful of years.

Outrunning Time celebrates the extraordinary artistry of Lili Boulanger and Vassili Kalinnikov, whose lives ended long before their creative journeys reached their full potential. Yet within the years they were given, they created music of astonishing beauty, imagination, and emotional depth - works that invite us not only to appreciate what they achieved, but to wonder what more they might have created.

Opening with the lyrical beauty of Gordon Duncan's Sleeping Tune for bagpipes and organ, the evening begins with a spirit of reflection and hope before honoring two extraordinary composers whose artistic legacy far exceeded the years they were given.

Time gave them less. They gave music more. And in doing so, they continue to outrun time. Featured Program

Gordon Duncan - Sleeping Tune for bagpipes and organ

Jerry Anne Dickel, bagpipes Stephen Gaboa-Diaz, organ

Lili Boulanger - Vielle priére bouddhique

featuring the New Haven Chorale
